We are seeking a Manager, Technology Strategy to craft Board and ELT strategy papers, research emerging technology trends, frame strategic options, and influence senior decision‑making across the Group. The role reports to the Executive Manager, Technology Strategy, and partners closely with Group Strategy and strategy teams across Retail, Business, Institutional, Technology, Finance, Risk and Operations to ensure CBA's technology strategy is clear, coherent and value‑focused.

O*n an*y given day you will:

  • Board & ELT Strategy Papers: Support the development of concise, insight‑rich papers and presentations for the Board, Board committees and ELT-clear problem framing, options and trade‑offs, customer and risk implications, and recommended calls to action.
  • Executive Influence & Stakeholder Alignment: Build coalitions with senior leaders; run pre‑briefs, socialise positions, reconcile differing views and secure decisions through structured narratives and evidence.
  • Research & Foresight: Run a continuous market‑intelligence cadence (tech trends, competitor moves, vendor/partner landscape, regulatory shifts). Translate signals into implications for CBA's platforms, data, AI, engineering, cyber, payments and resilience.
  • Strategic Options Analysis: Develop options analysis and fact packs that quantify value, cost, risk and time; shape buy/partner/build recommendations and prioritisation inputs for planning forums.
  • Groupwide Technology Strategy Embedment: Promote the technology strategy and its benefits across the organisation so that it is well understood, through targeted strategy forums, communications and Technology showcases.
  • Enterprise Alignment: Orchestrate alignment with Group Strategy and business‑unit strategies so technology principles, roadmaps and investments directly support CBA's enterprise ambition and customer outcomes.
  • Scenario Planning & North Star: Facilitate scenario analyses (2-5 year horizons), stress‑testing strategic positions under economic, competitive and regulatory scenarios; update the technology "north star" accordingly.
  • Strategic Metrics & Outcomes: Define and socialise outcome‑based measures for strategic progress (customer value, reliability/resilience, productivity, risk reduction), linking strategy to benefits realisation.
  • External Ecosystem Engagement: Curate dialogues with hyperscalers, fintechs, universities and industry bodies; bring back insights and partnership opportunities relevant to CBA's priorities.

Your experience looks like:

  • Top-Tier Consulting Background: Experience in a leading consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG or Bain) or strategy role within a complex organisation, with a strong foundation in structured problem solving and strategic thinking.
  • Board‑Quality Communication: Demonstrated ability to convert technical information into crisp narratives and visual storylines for senior audiences, ideally Board/ELT; excellent written, verbal and data‑visualisation skills.
  • Structured Problem Solving: Expert in issue trees, hypothesis‑driven analysis, options/trade‑off framing and executive synthesis.
  • Technology Acumen: Working understanding of modern tech domains (cloud, data & AI/ML, platforms, engineering productivity, cyber, resilience, DevOps) and how they create business value.
  • Market and Competitor Intelligence: Proven capability to scan trends, benchmark peers and synthesise implications for strategy and investment.
  • Financial & Risk Literacy: Comfort with business cases, value modelling and risk/regulatory considerations in financial services.
  • Stakeholder Leadership: Track record of influencing C‑level stakeholders and aligning diverse groups to a common decision.
  • Preferred Background: Financial services experience; degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or Computer Science.
