About the Role

Location: Mannering Park Public School

Commencing 27 January 2026

Senior Psychologist Education coordinate and professionally supervise a team of school counsellors and school psychologists to deliver high quality psychological services to schools. They work closely with schools, other members of educational services teams and agencies to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Senior Psychologist Education provide professional leadership in the delivery of psychological services to school communities and have a key leadership role as part of the networked specialist centres.

Senior Psychologist Education will not be required to teach or undertake teaching duties as defined by the Teacher Accreditation Act 2004 as amended.

NOTE: Recreation leave and flexible working hours

The Senior Psychologist Education is employed under the Government Sector Employment Act 2013, remunerated for 52 weeks per annum and required to work for 48 weeks p.a with 4 weeks recreation leave. Requests for recreation leave may not be approved during school term time and the Senior Psychologist Education is required to work during the student vacation period unless on a form of approved leave. Requests to take flex days in accordance with the Department's Flexible Working Hours Agreement will be considered subject to the operational requirements of the school and are generally only approved during the student vacation periods.

Mannering Park Public School is on Awabakal and Darkinjung traditional land and serves a small township located on a peninsular on the southern shores of Australia's largest and most picturesque saltwater lake, Lake Macquarie.

Mannering Park Public School has 200 students enrolled from K–6 and have dedicated staff, who ensure every student is known, valued and catered for through a restorative framework of caring students, committed staff and a connected community. The school receives School Based Allocation Resources (SBAR) funding for Aboriginal Education, socio–economic backgrounds, integration and low-level adjustment for disability and support. The school has an established Emotional Disturbance class (ED) and Multi-Category class (MC).

The school's Aboriginal student population is 20% and the school has strong links with Muru Bulbi, the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). We are a proud member of the muru gul gul community of schools' network and work in collaboration with schools, external service providers, professional groups and learning networks. Key Accountabilities

  • Provides individual and group professional practice supervision to build the capacity of school counselling staff, including the supervision of school counselling staff working towards registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Engages with and implements the procedures of the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service.
  • Works in collaboration with principals to provide leadership to the school counselling service, to support professional learning and the performance and development processes.
  • Assists school counselling staff in their work with schools to respond to students requiring additional wellbeing and psychological support.
  • Supports the whole school response and coordinates the provision of psychological support to schools experiencing serious incidents.
  • Builds the capacity of staff to support student wellbeing and mental health.
  • Contributes to the Department's support of students with disability and learning and support needs.
  • Coordinates and maintain systems and procedures, including test budgets, to facilitate effective service delivery.

Essential Requirements

1. Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

2. General or Provisional Psychology Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia

3. Valid and current Working with Children Check clearance

4. Current and valid driver's licence and ability and willingness to travel between work sites.

5. Australian citizenship or permanent residency

The following questions must be addressed (half a page each):

  • High level knowledge and skills in the provision of psychological assessment, counselling and evidence-based interventions within a school context.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead, clinically supervise and professionally develop school counsellors/school psychologists, including those working towards registration as a psychologist.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to support the learning and wellbeing of students, including students with complex and diverse needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement Department of Education priorities and initiatives within the school counselling service and in response to serious incidents.
