The Opportunity
Our Western Port Manufacturing facility is looking for an Electrical Reliability Engineer Specialist in our Metal Coating team based in Hastings. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products Portfolio, we have four major manufacturing sites at Western Port which operate 24 x 7 and deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to export and domestic customers.
Metal Coating is home to some of the most complex and unique equipment in our operations. The challenges are dynamic, and the opportunities to innovate are endless – making this the perfect role for someone who thrives on continuous improvement and values technical excellence.
Working closely with the Metal Coating Manufacturing team to understand core processes for our furnace and combustion equipment, you will act as the link between the Combustion Maintenance team and the Metal Coating Manufacturing team. Your role will focus on assessing furnace and combustion equipment performance, leading root cause investigations, and developing engineering solutions for maintenance teams. While also providing technical expertise across projects, ensuring assets are maintained to the highest standard to meet safety, quality, and reliability objectives.
What Will You Do?
Managing and developing the maintenance strategies for our Furnace and combustion equipment, you'll drive continuous improvement and reliability of Combustion & Instrumentation assets within the department.
You will also:
- focus on Combustion system reliability improvement, maintaining process control and reducing variation.
- provide technical support to maintenance and operations teams for troubleshooting and resolving reliability and breakdown issues.
- lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations on equipment problems with a focus on defect elimination.
- reviewing existing Maintenance strategies for Combustion and Instrumentation systems while recommending improved alternative strategies.
- contribute to the department's asset strategy development and review process to ensure maintenance practices are effective and aligned to operational requirements.
- analyse plant and equipment performance data to identify improvement projects that maximise OEE and minimise unit cost.
- plan, coordinate and execute major and minor projects as required including multi trade discipline works for equipment improvement projects.
More About You
As an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, you quickly adapt and have an eagerness to learn. You'll bring:
- degree qualifications in Electrical Trade/Engineering or a Diploma of Electrical Engineering, combined with suitable experience in relevant maintenance within manufacturing heavy industry.
- sound knowledge of Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM), Kepner-Tregoe (KT) analysis, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Defect Elimination, and Lean methodologies.
- relevant experience in equipment reliability focused on life-cycle maintenance and project management.
- instrumentation, PLCs, and drive systems knowledge and fault-finding skills.
- a strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively within manufacturing teams, with the capability to influence peers and colleagues to achieve the desired outcomes.
