The Role

We are currently looking for lawyers to support the Victorian public sector in secondment-based positions. These roles are ideal for individuals with strong legal drafting, advisory and stakeholder management skills, gained either in government, in-house, or at a top or mid-tier firm.

  1. The ability to draft documents and communications, provide legally sound yet commercially practical advice, identify issues and obtain sufficient instructions to address the matters concerned, prepare internal briefings, and assist in other related matters; and
  2. The capability to establish and maintain strong relationships with senior State Government stakeholders (including stakeholders at director level or above), instruct external legal providers and liaise with other government agencies to drive project outcomes.

This opportunity offers flexibility, with both part-time and hybrid arrangements available:

  • Solicitor / Junior Senior Associate
    – 3–4 month contract
  • Senior Lawyer (5–10 years PQE)
    – 3 month contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Have strong legal drafting skills, with the ability to prepare and review regulations, subordinate instruments, authorisations, and commercial documents
  • Be experienced in providing clear, concise, and commercially minded legal advice across a broad portfolio
  • Be confident liaising with parliamentary counsel, senior stakeholders, and external legal providers
  • Be adaptable, commercially minded, and able to manage competing priorities effectively
  • Enjoy working both independently and collaboratively to deliver project outcomes
