What you'll be doing
  • To gain skills in the pre-operative assessment and preparation of patients for cardiothoracic surgery
  • To gain experience in the administration of anaesthesia for cardiothoracic surgery and robotic cardiothoracic procedures
  • To gain experience in the provision of medical perfusion for cardiopulmonary bypass and extra-corporeal circulatory support
  • To gain experience in the provision of transoesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography
  • To participate in research activities related to cardiothoracic anaesthesia
  • To participate in after-hours rosters including the Obstetrics roster if required
  • To fulfil the educational and training requirements for trainees as a Provisional Fellow (as specified by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists) if not already attained
  • Participation in Medical Officer & Departmental teaching sessions
  • To learn good presentation skills through education and research presentations and QA activities such as morbidity/mortality reviews and critical incident reports
  • To gain experience in providing support for junior colleagues and peers
  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
  • Adept verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  • Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of anaesthesia.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  • Demonstrated previous experience in, and willingness to deliver, undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training and commitment to after-hours and on-call rosters.
