Community Engagement Specialist – Better Futures

Part-time | 3 days per week | 12-month contract (Parenting Leave cover)

Location: Footscray (with flexibility to work from home + some travel required)

About Opendoor (Formerly WCIG)

At OPENDOOR, we support people to live the life they want through meaningful employment, training, and increased independence. As a not-for-profit organisation, we are dedicated to empowering people to achieve their goals and improve their lives.

About the Better Futures Program

Better Futures, funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), provides tailored support to young people as they transition from out-of-home care to independence. Supporting young people aged 15.9 to 21, the program ensures they have an active voice in planning for their future and access to guidance across:

  • Housing
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Education
  • Employment
  • Community and cultural connections

Home Stretch, as part of Better Futures, extends care and support to eligible young people until the age of 21, assisting them to source, secure and maintain accommodation or continue living with a Carer.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and proactive Community Engagement Specialist to join our Better Futures team on a 12-month, part-time basis (3 days per week). In this role, you will:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, stakeholders, and partners
  • Promote the Better Futures program through workshops, events, and local engagement activities
  • Support Better Futures Practitioners with workshop planning, referrals, and administrative tasks
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date client records and reporting in line with DFFH requirements
  • Assist with project initiatives, research, and network meetings to strengthen program delivery

What We're Looking For

  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in community engagement, program support, or youth-focused initiatives
  • Organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A passion for empowering young people and supporting them to thrive
  • Flexibility to travel to external meetings and networks as required

Why Join OPENDOOR?

  • Make a real impact in the lives of young people transitioning to independence
  • Work within a supportive, values-driven not-for-profit organisation
  • Flexible work arrangements, including some work-from-home opportunities
  • Be part of a dedicated and collaborative team based in Footscray (relocating in the near future)

Child Safety

WCIG is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. We operate in compliance with the Child Safe Standards and the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 (Vic). Our recruitment practices reflect our commitment to safeguarding, and all successful applicants will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check, Police Check, and other relevant pre-employment screening.

How to Apply

If you are motivated to make a difference and support young people in shaping their future, we'd love to hear from you. Please submit your application including a resume and cover letter addressing the key requirements of the role.
