Bittersweet Cafe blends modern Australian cuisine with an all-day breakfast & lunch destination as well as their own Highgate Lane Coffee roasted on site. With a focus on delivering exceptional dishes, hosting remarkable events, and catering services, Bittersweet offers a vibrant and inviting atmosphere for guests and team members alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in daily preparation and cooking of menu items, ensuring dishes are made to standard recipes and quality expectations.
  • Assist with menu preparation by providing input on ingredients, portion sizes, and customer preferences.
  • Maintain correct temperatures and settings on ovens, grills, fryers, and other cooking equipment during service.
  • Prepare, cook, and season food items according to established recipes and special dietary requirements.
  • Plate meals with correct portion sizes, adding sauces, gravies, and garnishes as required.
  • Store raw and cooked food safely in temperature-controlled facilities to meet food safety regulations.
  • Monitor stock usage and report shortages or additional ingredient needs to supervisors or management.
  • Support waste management, portion control, and stock rotation practices to maintain quality and reduce costs.
  • Ensure all food leaving the kitchen is presented attractively, cooked to the correct temperature, and served on time.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen tools, appliances, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Follow and uphold all food safety, hygiene, and HACCP procedures in every aspect of kitchen work.
  • Assist in training, guiding, and mentoring kitchen assistants and apprentices under supervision.
  • Contribute to a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment by following procedures and workflows

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in Modern Australian including caterings.
  • Hands-on cooks with solid restaurant experience are encouraged to apply
  • A deep understanding of food preparation and the ability to produce high-quality, in-house dishes
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen hygiene and safety standards
  • A well-groomed and professional appearance
  • A willingness to learn Italian methods and techniques through training

Other Requirements

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher
  • At least 1-2 years of experience as a cook
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • A team player supportive of a collaborative work culture
  • High standards in food taste and presentation

  • Job Type: Full-time permanent position with all applicable benefits
  • Salary: AUD $76,515 - $80,000 per year plus superannuation.
