About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Senior Field Supervisor to work in a leadership role managing a highly committed team and contributing towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage of the Hawkesbury Nattai Area.

This position will supervise the field team located at Bargo. They manage a number of reserves including Nattai National Park, Thirlmere Lakes National Park, Guula Ngurra National Park, Wollondilly River Nature Reserve, Bargo State Conservation Area, Bargo River State Conservation Area, Burragorang State Conservation Area and Upper Nepean State Conservation Area. Within these reserves are areas of wilderness, world heritage and catchment.

The Bargo field team is a dynamic, productive team of 10 people, you will be working in a custom-built depot located within commutable distance of Wollongong, Western Sydney and the Southern Highlands.

As the Senior Field Supervisor, you will manage the planning and delivery of approved works, ensuring completion within required deadlines and approved budgets, as well as environmental, welfare and safety standards. You will also co-ordinate works program planning and reporting for the program and monitor and report on works program expenditure, as well as lead and supervise field staff across a wide geographic area with diverse terrain and seasonal challenges.

About You

You will have a passion for the environment and conservation because you will be part of a team delivering on projects in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, declared wilderness and in Sydney's water catchment.

As the role has a high level of autonomy, you will be outcomes-driven and highly motivated with a 'can-do' problem, solving approach to work. You will have a strong track record of scheduling work programs, managing budgets and coordinating contractors.

This role works in a dynamic environment which is fast paced with changing priorities. You are organised, and able to pivot for important reactive work as well as maintaining a focus on the strategic outcomes. You will be able to use technology to ensure that the team's work is programmed and implemented.

Essential requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with the Agency's statutory obligations as they apply to conservation natural, Aboriginal and cultural heritage and resources and experience in exercising delegated authority for law enforcement.
  • Demonstrated experience in, or detailed knowledge of, various trade skills and experience in the purchase, management and utilisation of plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring effective planning, management and completion of maintenance programs and construction of park/recreational facilities such as roads/fire trails, walking tracks and buildings; and pest and animal control.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to operate and supervise the operation of machinery, plant and equipment for maintenance and construction work whilst complying with Work Health and Safety standards, with a willingness and ability to obtain Workcover certification if required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a fire crew leadership role and incident control functions.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate and current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent including four-wheel driving certificate, and willingness to fly in light aircraft.

This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining some of NSW's most precious natural places.

Applicants must meet the requirements of a specific medical assessment) which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake the fitness test for firefighting fitness roles (i.e. moderate level Task-Based Assessment for Firefighters) within the 12-month probationary period, if relevant.

The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
