Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Senor Consultant, focused on Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM), possessing a Commercial Advisory background. A part of CORE Markets' Sydney or Melbourne teams, you will be responsible for the following:

Leading or being a member of a 3–4-person project team with the following responsibilities:

  • providing advice on project commercialisation to Renewables & Storage developers: optimal spot & contracted mix, pros & cons of alternative offtake structures, and interaction between offtake, project configuration, and project debt financing,
  • providing advice to large energy users (e.g., retailers or C&I customers) on their power procurement needs, including the pros & cons of retail vs. wholesale offtake
  • running competitive processes to buy or sell offtake linked to Renewables and/or Storage projects. These c.4-month long processes have three key phases:

(i) Go-to-market strategy

(ii) soliciting indicative offtake buy / sell offers, and then evaluation of offers to proceed to BAFO,

(iii) soliciting best-and-final offers (BAFOs) to then analyse and sign offtake agreements.

  • providing Power sector expertise (NEM and/or WEM) into other projects and other project teams, as and where needed. In particular, into our burgeoning Financial Advisory business and other pieces of strategic advice as / when required.
  • focusing on project delivery and execution
  • supporting business development as and where needed (e.g., proposal and pitch development), as directed by CORE Markets management team, and
  • mentoring / coaching junior members of your project teams (Analysts & Consultants)

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years' relevant experience in Australia's NEM, working with and for renewable and BESS project developers on commercialisation of projects
  • Experience in Australia's Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) is desired but not essential
  • Understanding of the development lifecycle and the multi-disciplinary nature of this work will be highly regarded
  • Experience in financial modelling will be highly advantageous.
  • Strong project delivery & project management skills
  • Strong quantitative skills (MS Excel is fine, programming experience is welcome but not essential for the role) and excellent analytical & problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal & written) with diverse stakeholders, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience in consulting / advisory is desired but not essential
