Mental Health Clinician

Full-time, 38 hours a week

About the Role

The Mental Health Clinician will report to the Wellbeing Counselling Services Manager. The Mental Health Clinician will deliver integrated primary mental health services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients within the Greater Shepparton Local Government Area and, where appropriate, the wider catchment.

The role is responsible for engaging clients, conducting assessments, and providing therapeutic interventions, all within a framework of recovery-oriented practice that is culturally safe and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

About You

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

• Appointmentto this position requires proof of qualifications and registration or membership with the appropriate professional authority or association. Certified copies of all required documentation must be provided to the relevant Manager prior to commencing clinical duties.

• The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent qualification) in one of the following:

• Psychology - current registration or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a psychologist.

-Social Work - eligibility and/or current membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (required).

-Other relevant qualifications may be considered, including Counselling, Occupational Therapy, or Mental Health Nursing, with registration/membership to the relevant authority or association.

• Demonstrated ability to comply with the profession's code of ethics and operate in accordance with legislation affecting professional practice to maintain registration or membership.
• Experience in providing assessment, intervention, and case management to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients is highly desirable.
• A sound knowledge of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander communities and relevant organisations within the Local Government Area of Greater Shepparton, and a demonstrated understanding of health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• A good understanding of, and commitment to, the philosophy of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience delivering complex clinical services , adapting principles and methods as required.
• Deliver high-quality, culturally safe, confidential, person-centred care in accordance with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022. K eeping up to date with legislative changes, service guidelines, and best practice standards.
• Collaborate with colleagues, managers, and stakeholders to improve service delivery and client outcomes.
• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and record-keeping.
  Competence in information technology, including electronic client record systems, Outlook, Word, Excel, and databases.
