About the role
The Torres Strait Regional Authority is seeking a full-time Vessel Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our fleet of vessels based in Thursday Island, Queensland. In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient management of our vessels to support the Authority's work across the Torres Strait region.
What you'll be doing
- Manage the scheduling, maintenance, and crewing of the Authority's vessels to meet operational requirements
- Ensure compliance with all relevant maritime regulations and standards
- Liaise with key stakeholders, including government agencies and community groups, to coordinate vessel movements and activities
- Oversee the procurement of supplies, equipment, and services required for vessel operations
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to support safe and effective vessel operations
- Provide regular reports and updates on vessel performance and utilisation
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Authority's maritime operations
What we're looking for
- Substantial experience in the management of maritime operations, ideally within the public sector or a similar government or community-focused organisation
- Strong knowledge of maritime regulations, safety practices, and vessel maintenance requirements
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Proficient in the use of relevant maritime and fleet management software and systems
- Demonstrated skills in project management, problem-solving, and continuous improvement
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in maritime operations, business management, or a related field
