About the Role

Forensicare have a number of exciting opportunities for a Grade 2 Social Worker to join a dedicated and unique multidisciplinary team at the Thomas Embling Hospital.

Position is based in Fairfield at the Thomas Embling Hospital.

Inpatient Services at Thomas Embling Hospital (TEH) are provided within a high-security forensic hospital. Primarily designed to facilitate the provision of assessments, acute or continuing care and treatment for consumers admitted from the criminal justice system, TEH is a unique service provided in Victoria

The Social Worker Grade 2 contributes to ongoing development and planning of social work services to achieve and maintain a high standard of consumer care.

This position will consult with care team regarding social and systemic issues, as well as advocating for consumer and family/carer rights and entitlements.

As a Grade 2 Social Worker, you will:

  • Deliver high quality social work services consistent with the Forensicare Model of Care, including maintaining a safe therapeutic environment through the use of relational security, risk reduction and rights-based interventions.
  • Work with consumers and family/carers around psychosocial needs and legal literacy, as well as accessing supports and referrals to external services.
  • Acknowledge the unique issues and concerns experienced by consumers, families and carers involved in the forensic mental health system.
  • Hold a service development portfolio and maintain relevant resources for the TEH social work team
  • Prioritise complex issues, including community transition, service access, and agency and family relationships as they impact on the individual well-being.

About You:

  • Approved degree in social work, or other qualifications approved for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  • Post-qualifying social work practice experience in forensic mental health or a related field.
  • Ability to deliver ethical and effective social work services in a statutory practice environment.
  • Interest or expertise in practice areas of substance use/AoD Recovery, family therapy, forensic disability or forensic rehabilitation.
  • Ability to coordinate and evaluate social work practice and service development activities.
  • Understands risk reduction and recovery principles and practices in a forensic mental health setting.
