About the position
Reporting to the Manager Regulatory Services, the Team Leader Planning is responsible for delivering a range of urban planning services that support sustainable growth and liveability of the City. Delivering development assessment within Council's statutory obligations. The position contains a technical element and will be required to undertake development assessments to assist in satisfying Council's statutory obligations.
The key responsibilities are:
- Co-ordinate and supervise the day-to-day operations of the planning team. Ensure Council's statutory obligations are satisfied concerning the delivery of development assessment planning services.
- Prepare and/or review reports for consideration by Council and the Council Assessment Panel as required.
- Provide professional advice on controversial or political planning related matters or enquiries made by elected members, Council staff, developers and community members.
- Coach / mentor staff - professional development consistent with organisation and team values.

About you
- Considerable experience in leading a planning team or experience in a formal leadership position in a similar role
- Extensive experience in assessing/inspecting a variety of different developments and administering the provisions of the Planning Development and Infrastructure Act/Regulations.
- Extensive experience in preparing, reviewing and presenting reports to Council Assessment Panels
- Experience in dealing with matters before the Environment, Resources and Development Court.
- Experience acting as an expert witness before the Environment Resources and Development Court (highly regarded)
- Experience in Local Government (highly regarded)
- A degree in Urban and Regional planning, recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia
- Ability to obtain accreditation - Planning Level 1 Assessment Manager under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016
- Formal leadership qualifications (e.g. M.B.A or similar) (highly regarded)
- Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment and National Criminal History check as part of the recruitment process.

Salary range is between $117,741 and $124,538 per annum + superannuation guarantee and will be negotiated commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications.
