About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile
Project Engineer
to manage and deliver complex infrastructure and networking projects across a diverse client base. This field-based role is ideal for someone with a broad technical background who thrives in hands-on environments and enjoys solving challenging technical problems — particularly in the networking space.

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end technical delivery of infrastructure projects. This includes designing and implementing network and server environments, configuring security appliances, deploying cloud and hybrid solutions, and providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

You'll work closely with internal teams and clients to ensure smooth execution, effective communication, and successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new network solutions and optimise existing infrastructure
  • Configure and support network equipment including routers, firewalls, WAN accelerators, DNS, and DHCP
  • Lead on network troubleshooting and performance improvement activities
  • Configure firewalls, routing, and switching to maximise efficiency and security (Palo Alto preferred)
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to coordinate outages, updates, and deployments
  • Plan and implement system upgrades, migrations, and rollouts — including some after-hours work as required
  • Design and execute test plans to verify the functionality of deployed solutions
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams and serve as an escalation point for complex issues
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation including configurations, risk assessments, and change logs
  • Ensure compliance with best practices in network security and cloud governance
  • Conduct onsite installations and system commissioning as needed
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, stakeholders, and third-party vendors

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in project engineering or similar technical delivery role
  • Strong hands-on experience with network design, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Deep knowledge of Cisco CLI (OSPF, BGP, tunnels, RADIUS/TACACS, ACLs, VLANs, QoS)
  • Expertise in firewalls, especially Palo Alto configuration and maintenance
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure (VNet, VPN Gateway, AADS, Conditional Access, PIM, etc.)
  • Infrastructure and virtualisation experience with VMware, Hyper-V, and familiarity with Nutanix
  • Experience with SAN storage (e.g. Nimble, IBM, Lenovo) and iSCSI configurations
  • Competence in Veeam for backup and recovery, including O365 and Azure environments
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 suite (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or BASH)
  • Exposure to AWS networking and compute fundamentals
  • Solid understanding of Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS) for basic admin and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of DNS (Windows/Linux), SMTP mail flow, and email security (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and secure infrastructure design
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills

Qualifications

  • Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Relevant industry certifications (Cisco, Microsoft, Azure, Palo Alto, VMware, etc.) are a plus
  • Valid Australian driver's licence and access to reliable personal transport
  • Must have Australian citizenship or Permanent Residency
