About the Division

As a Division of the Academy, the Business Services Division leads the provision of quality Academy corporate support services and functions (including procurement, project management and program governance, human resources and culture architecture, finance, facilities management and, risk, audit and reporting) which enable successful operation of the Academy. In addition, the Business Services Division is responsible for the oversight, delivery and reporting of the compliance obligations required of a statutory authority.

About the Role

The Senior Compliance and Audit Officer is responsible for supporting, managing, monitoring, and reporting on the Academy's audit and compliance functions. Key focus areas include risk management, business continuity, asset management, audit processes, and compliance reporting to ensure adherence to the Standing Directions 2018 under the Financial Management Act 1994 and Victorian Protective Data Security Standards (VPDSS).

Key responsibilities include:

  • contributing to the development of a risk-based rolling audit program ensuring alignment with the Academy's objectives and adherence to relevant standards and frameworks
  • managing the audit and assurance programs including tracking the implementation of agreed management actions
  • providing expert guidance on audit and compliance matters to support informed decision-making across the organisation
  • preparing detailed audit reports, briefings and papers for the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) and Academy Board.
  • working in collaboration with the Academy's business units and the Department of Education to build collaborative relationships across business units and stakeholders and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in compliance practices.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • administer the implementation and monitoring of audit programs, tracking each management action to completion, and ensuring effective resolution of issues within agreed timelines
  • prepare detailed reports, briefings, and papers ensuring all communications are tailored to the audience and purpose
  • identify and address emerging risks and compliance trends to enhance the effectiveness of the Academy's audit and assurance programs
  • drive improvements in audit processes and tools, providing recommendations for system enhancements and streamlined practices.

This role requires exceptional analytical skills, strategic thinking, and precise communication. You must excel in managing complex audit and compliance matters, making informed decisions that influence organisational risk and compliance outcomes. Your ability to build strong relationships and model informal influence will be essential, along with ability to collaborate across diverse teams to drive continuous improvement. Success in this role also depends on your capacity to manage multiple priorities, provide expert advice, and deliver impactful results in a complex environment.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

A tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g., auditing, risk management, business administration, or a related discipline) is highly desirable. Alternatively, extensive relevant experience in audit, compliance, or a related area demonstrating equivalent expertise will be considered.
