Are you passionate about helping children and families in rural and remote South Australia? Whether you're a professional, parent, community member or someone who simply cares about giving kids the best start – we invite you to join the Board of Remote & Isolated Children's Exercise (RICE).

RICE is a not-for-profit organisation delivering early childhood education and care services to families living across remote South Australia. You don't need to have children using RICE services to join the Board - just a genuine interest in supporting families and ensuring children in rural and remote communities have access to quality early learning opportunities.


About RICE

The Remote & Isolated Children's Exercise Inc. (RICE) was established in 1976 in response to the difficulties and lack of services faced by geographically isolated families with children up to 12 years old. RICE is a unique mobile children's service offering a range of education and care services.

We offer:

  • Travelling Playgroups & Activity Days
  • Preschool Education via distance learning
  • Creche Programs (Orroroo & Hawker)
  • Our unique Outback Childcare initiative

RICE exists to bridge the gap for children in areas where access to early learning is limited – and our volunteer Board plays a vital role in guiding this mission.

Why Join the RICE Board?

We're looking for new Board Members to be elected at our upcoming Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 19 November 2025. There will be multiple vacancies.

We welcome individuals with experience or interest in:

  • Finance & Accounting
  • Governance & Leadership
  • Education & Child Development
  • Community Development & Advocacy
  • A passion for remote SA communities

Board Meetings:

  • Held mostly via Zoom to accommodate regional participation
  • 2x in-person meetings per year
  • Reimbursements provided to help offset out-of-pocket expenses
