The Workers' Compensation Investigations and Prosecution Services (WCIPS) team within Workers' Compensation Regulatory Services (WCRS), is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of offences committed against the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. Our specialist Investigators comprehensively investigate reports of suspected offending and non-compliance with the Act. Specialist Legal Officers provide strategic advice to the Deputy Director General and manage the prosecution of these offences before the Court.

Types of offending include fraud, providing false or misleading information, claim farming, failure to hold any or adequate workers' compensation insurance, & misuse of a workers' compensation.

As a Senior Investigations Officer, you will be a part of an efficient, thorough and responsive investigations team. This role is responsible for autonomously managing a caseload of investigation matters. Investigators are appointed as "authorised persons" under the Act and exercise those powers to carry out investigations. This role is responsible for conducting investigations that meet the requisite standards of quality, timeliness and efficiency.

This position reports to a Principal Investigations Officer, Workers' Compensation Investigations and Prosecution Services (WCIPS).

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Use "authorised person" powers to investigate suspected offending under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and address non-compliance.
  • Provide recommendations about offending and non-compliance to a Principal Investigations Officer and Director, WCIPS.
  • Manage a caseload of 5 to 15 investigations at any one time, depending on complexity.
  • Communicate with witnesses, insurers, health practitioners and other agencies and organisations to gather evidence and obtain witness statements, obtain material through the issuing of Notices to Produce, conduct "records of interview" with suspected offenders and analyse evidence received.
  • Attend Queensland workplaces to obtain evidence where necessary and adhere to Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Assess information against evidentiary requirements of workers' compensation and other legislation to accurately inform the course of an investigation and recommendations.
  • Ensure appropriate records are kept and managed in accordance with policy and legislation as they relate to investigations.
  • Plan investigations in a strategic manner and prepare high quality investigation reports and briefs of evidence.
  • Give oral testimony in matters prosecuted throughout local Queensland Criminal Magistrate Courts.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships and strategic networks with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain the necessary knowledge and skills by participating in professional development opportunities offered to investigators as part of their performance and development plans.
  • Model professional and ethical behaviour and act in accordance with the Queensland Public Service legislative framework and Code of Conduct.
