MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Senior Network Engineer role is responsible for network design, implementation, and maintenance, focusing on ensuring high availability, performance, and security of the ISP's network infrastructure.

KEY RESULT AREAS

Responsibilities

Network Design and Implementation:

Designing, implementing, and maintaining the ISP's network infrastructure, including routing, switching, and security systems, with a particular focus on high availability and network resilience

Troubleshooting and Support:

Diagnosing and resolving complex network issues, ensuring optimal performance, and collaborating with other teams to resolve problems

Monitoring and Performance:

Monitoring network performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to improve efficiency and reliability including performance utilising gNMI telemetry

Security:

Implementing and maintaining network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security tools

Mentoring and Training:

Mentoring junior network engineers, sharing knowledge, and contributing to their professional development

Strategic Planning:

Contributing to the development of long-term network strategies and plans, ensuring the ISP's network infrastructure meets future needs

Automation and Orchestration:

Driving the automation of network tasks and processes, using tools like scripting and configuration management systems, work with development teams to automate configuration through gNMIc/Netconf.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of networking technologies: Including TCP/IP, routing protocols (e.g., BGP, ISIS and OSPF), switching, firewalls, and security protocols
  • Vendor familiarity – Nokia SROS, Juniper JunOS, Cisco IOS XR
  • Strong problem-solving skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues quickly and efficiently
  • Experience with network automation and orchestration: Using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or gNMIC
  • Experience with scripting languages: Python preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills: Ability to work effectively with other engineers, developers, and project managers
  • Relevant certifications: CCIE, CCNP, or other certifications related to networking and security
