About RSPCA Queensland
For nearly 140 years, RSPCA Queensland has been a leading animal welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of animals - whether domestic, farmed, or native. We care for over 42,000 animals annually, relying on the generosity of animal lovers like you to fund 96% of our life-changing services.
Our Mission: Together We Change Lives, And That Includes Yours.
About the Role
We're looking for a compassionate and reliable Animal Care and Customer Service Attendant to join our team at RSPCA Bundaberg.
In this hands-on role, you'll help care for animals in our shelter and private boarding facility - supporting their wellbeing through daily husbandry, enrichment, and best practice animal care. You'll also play an important part in providing excellent customer service to visitors, adopters, and volunteers.
No two days are the same here - you'll balance time caring for animals with admin, data entry, and supporting community engagement activities that make a real impact.
What We're Looking For
You're a caring, motivated team player who thrives in a hands-on environment and finds purpose in helping animals and people alike. You're comfortable switching between physical work and customer interactions, and you bring a calm, focused, compassionate approach to everything you do.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
- Provide daily care, enrichment, and exercise for animals in our shelter and private boarding facility.
- Assist with animal intake, health checks, vaccinations, and adoptions.
- Respond to public and internal enquiries (in person, phone, and email) with empathy and professionalism.
- Support volunteers by providing guidance, training, and day-to-day direction.
- Perform general administrative duties, including accurate record keeping in ShelterMate, Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook), and Google Sheets.
- Record incoming strays in ShelterMate and liaise with Council for collection (no council pound operations in Bundaberg).
- Ensure all animals and facilities are maintained to the highest standard of cleanliness and welfare.
- Assist with transport, fundraising events, education visits, and community activities.
Please note: Flexibility in hours and days is required. From time to time, you may be asked to cover additional shifts to support operational needs.
What You'll Bring to the Role
- Experience in animal handling and husbandry (shelter or vet environment preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good computer literacy (Microsoft 365 suite and Google Sheets).
- Excellent time management and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to perform animal care duties, including manual handling up to 10kg.
- A genuine passion for helping animals and people, aligned with RSPCA QLD's mission and values.
Why Join Us?
- Comprehensive Support: Enjoy 8 weeks of paid parental leave, flexible working arrangements, study leave, and even leave for your furry companions. We also provide access to counselling and mental health services.
- Employee Perks: From free on-site parking to exclusive discounts, novated leases, free pet vaccines, and 50% off Royal Canin pet food, we've got you covered You can also adopt a new furry friend with free adoption options.
- Professional Growth: Access expansive learning and development programs to help you elevate your career and skill set.
