We are currently partnering with a government organisation to recruit an Infringement Review Officer. This role is responsible for conducting independent internal reviews of infringement notices, ensuring decisions are evidence-based and aligned with the principles of the Infringements Act 2006 and the Attorney General Guidelines.

In addition to managing internal reviews and appeals, the role involves processing driver nominations, payment plans, lodgements to Fines Victoria, and penalty reminder notices. The officer will also support broader infringement management processes.

This position requires sound judgement, initiative, and strong communication skills to engage effectively with individuals and their representatives-explaining decisions, outlining the review process, and providing clear guidance on available options.

Your New Role
You will be responsible for:

  • Assess applications for internal review of infringement notices issued by various Civic Services teams (Parking Services, Local Laws, Animal Management, Asset Protection, Health Services)
  • Investigate claims and make legally sound decisions about whether to proceed with enforcement or withdraw infringements, in line with the Infringements Act 2006 and internal guidelines.
  • Draft high-quality, tailored written responses to applicants explaining review outcomes and reasons for decisions
  • Maintain and operate the infringement management system, including VicRoads/interstate registration checks, penalty reminder notices, customer payment options, revocations/withdrawals, Fines Victoria lodgements, payment plans, and court referrals
  • Collate and analyse infringement data and assist in preparing reports for Council and statutory bodies.
  • Deliver timely, proactive, and empathetic customer service, responding to enquiries and providing clear advice on infringement matters
  • Interpret and communicate legislative requirements clearly and accurately to customers
  • Respond to customer requests (CRMs) within corporate timeframes and contribute to high-quality audit outcomes.
  • Assist in documenting and updating processes, procedures, registers, databases, and website content
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to streamline operations
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the role, supporting team collaboration and service delivery

What you'll need to succeed

The successful applicant will:

  • Demonstrated experience in administration and customer service, including handling phone and counter enquiries, preparing correspondence, and assessing infringement reviews (preferred)
  • Ability to understand or quickly learn relevant Acts, Regulations, and Local Laws
  • Ability to interpret legislation and apply it to varied circumstances with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report and correspondence preparation
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully, with assertiveness and resilience when needed, including conflict deescalation
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent output standards
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
