Summary:

The Assistant Baker supports the Baker in preparing a variety of baked goods for customers in the hospitality and tourism industry. This role involves helping with ingredient preparation, operating baking equipment under supervision, ensuring cleanliness and organization of the bakery, and assisting in producing high-quality baked products in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and portioning ingredients according to recipes and instructions
  • Support the Baker in producing a range of breads, pastries, and other baked goods
  • Operate ovens, mixers, and other bakery equipment safely under supervision
  • Monitor baking times and temperatures as directed
  • Help decorate and finish baked goods as required
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the bakery and workstations
  • Ensure proper storage of ingredients and finished products to maintain freshness and quality
  • Assist with stock rotation and keeping track of ingredient inventory
  • Follow hygiene, food safety, and workplace health standards at all times
  • Work flexibly as part of the bakery team, including during busy periods, weekends, and holidays

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a bakery, pastry shop, or kitchen is an advantage but not required
  • Basic knowledge of baking techniques and ingredients preferred
  • Strong willingness to learn and follow instructions
  • Good time management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and carry bakery items
  • Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
