Marine and Civil Maintenance (MCM) is a market leader in concrete repair, cathodic protection, structural strengthening, protective coatings, access systems, pile maintenance and asset management. 100% Australian owned, we employ ~60 people locally and generate around $40M annual turnover.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Manager – Finance, you'll own the integrity of our financial accounting and compliance while leading a small, capable team (Payroll Officer + two Accounts Assistants). It's a broad, hands-on role that blends month-end control with team leadership, cashflow and business partnering.

What you'll do
  • Drive an accurate and timely month-end close, GL integrity and reconciliations.
  • Oversee AP/AR, fixed asset register (additions, disposals, depreciation) and bank reconciliations; jump into processing when needed to hit deadlines.
  • Coordinate statutory compliance: Including but not limited to BAS/PAYG, FBT, superannuation, payroll tax and workers' compensation submissions.
  • Supervise payroll operations and provide backup coverage when required.
  • Prepare rolling cashflow forecasts; support banking/treasury routines and facility reporting.
  • Provide commercial insight to operations; contribute to budgeting, forecasting and management reporting.
  • Lead, coach and review the work of your team; foster a collaborative, accountable culture.
  • Assist with systems and control improvements and ad-hoc strategic projects.
What you'll bring
  • Degree in Accounting/Commerce and CA/CPA (completed or near completion).
  • 3–5+ years in financial accounting (construction/engineering/project-based experience ideal; strong fundamentals from other industries considered).
  • Proven capability across GL, reconciliations, month-end, AP/AR, payroll oversight, fixed assets, cashflow forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Prior experience supervising or coaching junior staff.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Excel; exposure to Jobpac or similar construction ERP is a plus.
  • Clear communicator who is deadline-driven, hands-on, and comfortable partnering with operations.
