STEM Graduates – Help us build a Radar Guided Sensor Fusion Missile
5 days ago
Help us build a Radar Guided Sensor Fusion Missile
The original UAV. The Self Guided, Target Acquiring, High Speed, Rocket Propelled Missile.
Simbiant have been developing Missile Technologies in support of the Australian Defence Forces for many years, and we are now stepping up to the challenge of creating a sovereign missile capability.
We are seeking highly motivated and passionate Graduates to join our Research and Development Projects for 2026 to teach the next generation of rocket scientists and engineers.
We will take passionate STEM based graduates from any field and fill in the gaps to make you a valued member of our Missile, and Missile Defence teams. We want Electronics, Math, Physics, Mechatronics, Aeronautical, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Graphics, Aerospace, Programming, Mechanical Engineering, and many more besides.
We have a lot of deep roots in mainstream defence, but we embrace a start-up philosophy. Don't expect a Boeing or Lockheed Martin. We're much more grass roots than that, and it's why we can get things done in a fraction of the time of the corporates. It's also why we'll be asking you to take on all sorts of responsibilities outside your comfort zone. You'll most likely be working at our R&D office in Glenelg, and (once you have your security clearance), a secure facility at Edinburgh.
Our graduate program will turn you into a high technology generalist, while guiding you to become an expert in your chosen field. One day you might be preparing data for AI missile tracking networks, and the next at the R&D office hand populating RF PCB's for missile guidance, or developing stealth algorithms. Configuring military communications networks, or developing detailed military simulations.
You will be introduced to all of our projects and we'll make sure we get the right fit for the right person.
YouYou are passionate about your field and live-and-breath the technology. Uni wasn't enough for you, you had to start some projects on the side to keep you going. If there was a technology you didn't know, you taught yourself. If there was a component you couldn't buy, you designed it. If the API had limitations, you wrote your own. (Don't worry too much if that doesn't describe you exactly. It could be enough, that you want it to be you.)
A Bachelor's degree is required for this graduate position.
Fields we are interested in (the more you know the better, but you'll most likely be given the opportunity to dabble in all of them):
- Programming - everyone has to be able to program.
- Aerospace Engineering, aerodynamics, guidance and control
- Computer Science – From Heuristic Analysis to Computer Vision, AI to control systems. GPU optimization to swarm control algorithms.
- Artificial Intelligence - computer vision, tracking and classification. Edge computing.
- Mechatronics – we build lots of cool stuff and need to control it. UAV's, RF, Radars. Through embedded design, control, networking and comms.
- Electronics – Very hands on. PCB design/fabrication
- Space - Branching out into space technologies, guidance, navigation
- Mechanical – Great CAD skills. We 3d print, mill, route, mold, lay, vacuum, drill saw and screw. Design anything from a LED mount to an aircraft.
- RF. Filters. Power Circuits. FPGA.
- Graphics and Visual – Simulations and Emulations using virtual worlds such as Unity and Unreal. Significant computer vision projects, and 3d AR/VR projects.
- Everything Else – If you are convinced that you can add value (and can convince us of the same), by all means apply.
Our graduate program is tailored to your skills and direction, but is largely R&D project based. You will be given a mentor who will guide you through the rollercoaster of small project competing priorities, introduced to and challenged by the thousand things they didn't teach you at Uni. It certainly is a trial-by-fire, but lots of senior resources to pull you through.
You will join a tight-knit team working in a collaborative environment to develop high tech military technologies. Our grad topics include electro-optic IR/UV sensors, Missile Guidance and Control, RF and radar technologies, real-time autonomous systems, AI and machine learning, Target Acquisition and Tracking, Computer Vision, and development of countermeasures and tactics in Electronic Warfare.
Important: obtaining a defence security clearance is essential for an ongoing position. Only Australian citizens can obtain a defence security clearance.
In the first instance please submit a CV with a cover letter detailing -why you would be good for the role. Don't be generic. Convince us that you want this. Note: shortlisting and interviews for this position will be conducted in 2025 for commencement in 2026. Applicants in their final semester of study in 2025, or with minimal outstanding study to complete their degrees are encouraged to apply.
