About us

HWLE Lawyers is not your typical law firm. Our rapid rise to become the largest legal partnership in Australia shows that the differences are real. We deliver first class legal advice to our commercial and government clients in every state and territory across Australia. Firm wide, we have over 270 Partners and 1700 people.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity to join our highly regarded Canberra Insurance team. You will work on a diverse and engaging mix of insurance matters, with a particular focus on common law tort claims and statutory workers compensation and CTP claims. The role involves investigating and litigating claims, and providing support and advice on strategy, resolution and coverage. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to broaden their skills across other areas of insurance, including public liability, regulatory investigations, medical negligence, immigration and general insurance claims. Day to day, you'll be busy with:

  • direct client access;
  • close collaboration with Partners in a strong team environment;
  • supportive training and mentoring;
  • advisory work on coverage analysis, liability and potential non-disclosure and misrepresentation issues;
  • assisting insurers with claims disputes, investigations and complaints; and
  • advocacy in the courts and tribunals.

To succeed in this role, ideally you'll have

  • experience in insurance and litigation;
  • critical analysis skills in respect of expert reports, contracts and/or legislation and regulatory documents;
  • ability to draft clear and concise communications;
  • good interpersonal and communication skills in conversing with clients and other parties; and;
  • desire to develop your career and professional network in the Insurance industry.
