We're offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced planning professional to join our passionate and forward-thinking Strategic Planning team at Glenorchy City Council.
This parental leave position is a fixed term, full-time role giving a capable Lead Strategic Planner opportunity to take the reins on a number of complex strategic planning matters until December 2026.
At Glenorchy City Council, you'll be exposed to a diverse and growing municipality, encompassing a mix of industrial, commercial, and residential land use matters. Some of the projects we are doing are led by developers and some of them will be led by you

About the role:
You will have the opportunity to:
- lead and assess a wide range of planning scheme amendment requests and strategic land use projects
- apply your expertise in strategic planning and report writing
- work collaboratively to deliver high-quality planning outcomes
- as the Lead Strategic Planner, assist, manage and mentor other team members as needed
What you'll bring to the role:
- tertiary qualification in land use planning or a related field (e.g. environmental design, architecture, or geography)
- sound understanding of Tasmania's planning system, and both the statutory and strategic planning processes.
- demonstrated experience in leading a team and in handling complex planning matters, particularly planning scheme amendments
- confidence working with a range of stakeholders to get great outcomes for our community
Position details:
- Fixed term, full-time (76 hours fortnight) until December 2026.
- Salary: $108,000 to $113,850
