As our AI Prompt Engineer, you'll craft the sophisticated language systems that power our newsroom tools, ensuring every interaction is precise, ethical, and aligned with our editorial standards.
This role can be worked from any of our head offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland or Adelaide
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the bridge between advanced AI technology and practical journalism. Your work will involve designing, testing, and refining the prompts that guide our AI models, ensuring outputs meet the exacting standards our journalists require.
- Through close collaboration with editorial teams, you'll build tools that enhance workflow efficiency whilst maintaining the integrity that defines quality journalism.
- Develop and fine-tune sophisticated prompts that guide AI models to produce accurate, contextually appropriate responses for diverse journalistic applications.
- Partner with journalists and editorial teams through structured interviews and workshops to understand workflow requirements and translate them into effective AI interactions.
- Define and document excellence benchmarks for AI outputs, ensuring adherence to accuracy, relevance, tone, and editorial guidelines.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive, version-controlled library of prompt patterns and strategies for organisation-wide use.
- Share insights and successful strategies across teams to drive ongoing improvement and learning.
Who are you?
- Genuine passion for journalism and understanding of modern newsroom operations
- Curiosity, curiosity, curiosity. Did we mention curiosity?
- Demonstrated elementary coding experience, preferably Python, natural language processing (NLP) and prompt engineering using different models
- Strong grasp of language semantics and syntax, coupled with an experimental mindset
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with both journalists and technical teams
- Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy
