About the role
National Intermodal has an opening for a Senior Advisor, Environment and Planning Approvals based in our Melbourne CBD office due to an internal team change. You will report to the Senior Manager and help secure planning approvals and conduct environmental impact assessments to support the development of National Intermodal's terminal portfolio, particularly in VIC. Working with a collaborative team of internal and external experts in fields like environmental management, urban planning, cultural heritage, design, commercial, and legal, you'll ensure projects are delivered with innovative, industry-leading environmental outcomes.

What you'll be doing

  • Reviewing and managing planning approvals, environmental impact assessments, technical studies, and design drawings to meet project deadlines and goals.
  • Ensuring compliance with National Intermodal's high environmental performance standards.
  • Providing strategic advice on federal, state, and local planning approvals to optimize timing, budget, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborating with diverse teams of experts (environmental, urban planning, cultural heritage, design, legal, and more) to deliver innovative, industry-leading environmental outcomes.
  • Supporting tender preparation, manage project budgets, and oversee environmental and planning contractors to achieve quality results.
  • Working with communication professionals to engage stakeholders, including government agencies, communities, and business partners.
  • Driving innovative solutions for social, environmental, economic, and transport planning challenges.

Your background

  • 7+ years' experience in similar functional role with leadership experience and proven delivery experience in private and public sector environments.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Science / Management / or Town/Urban Planning or related discipline.
  • Experience in securing approvals for major infrastructure projects, such as rail, road, industrial, renewable energy, water or utilities.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Victorian planning system and environmental impact assessment documentation requirements General knowledge of post approvals (construction and or operational phase) and compliance requirements
  • Proactive, self-motivated approach with exceptional planning and prioritization skills to manage competing demands.
  • Knowledge of sustainability requirements for major infrastructure projects (desirable, not mandatory – can be part of the learning journey).
