The Organisation
Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation (LAAC) is the registered Native Title body corporate (RNTBC) for the Mparntwe, Antulye, and Irlpme estate groups, the Traditional Owners of the Alice Springs region. Established in 2002, LAAC supports native title holders to care for Country, protect culture, and guide development across their traditional estates.
The Lhere Artepe Ranger Program delivers culturally informed land and natural resource management, protecting key sites including Todd River Reserve, Alice Springs Telegraph Station Reserve, Olive Pink Botanical Gardens, and other areas of cultural significance around Alice Springs. The program also provides fee-for-service works for government and private partners, such as trail maintenance, fencing, and facilities management.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a person passionate to lead a small team of Aboriginal Rangers caring for Country within the Municipality of Alice Springs. This role blends hands-on fieldwork, leadership, and mentoring, with opportunities to influence cultural, environmental, and community outcomes.
You'll coordinate daily operations, plan and deliver projects such as:
Weed management and Buffel control programs
Fire management and hazard reduction
Trail maintenance for hiking, biking, and accessible trails
Sacred site protection and cultural heritage recording
On-Country mentoring with Elders and youth
The role also includes fee-for-service projects, stakeholder engagement, and facilitating Cultural Adviser Meetings. Rangers will benefit from on-the-job training, structured mentoring, and professional development, including the chance to attend forums and training opportunities with other ranger groups.
You'll have access to a 4WD fleet vehicle, and can accrue TOIL, with time off granted during the Christmas holiday period.
About You
You are an experienced leader with a mix of practical land management skills, cultural knowledge, and program coordination experience. You will have:
Essential:
Experience supervising or mentoring staff in land management, conservation, or community-based programs
Cultural competency and experience working respectfully with Aboriginal Elders and Traditional Owners
Ability to take Elders and community members on On-Country trips, ensuring safety and cultural protocol
Physical fitness to work outdoors, including lifting, walking over rough terrain, and varied weather conditions
Current manual driver's licence and ability to drive 4WD vehicles
Desirable:
Construction experience or White Card certification
Project management experience
Fire management and hazard reduction skills
Trail maintenance experience (hiking, biking, accessible trails)
Qualifications in Conservation and Land Management (Cert II or above)
Experience quoting for fee-for-service works and managing contracts
Knowledge of native title, land tenure, and cultural heritage legislation
Your Reward
Starting salary $83,000 per annum (negotiable, plus superannuation)
Annual leave 20 days with 17.5% leave loading
TOIL accrual and time off during the Christmas period
