Overview of role:
The Legal Advisor, part of the Corporate & Assurance Group, provides expert legal counsel to support Coliban Water's strategic and operational objectives. The role ensures compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, manages legal risk, and safeguards governance interests. Working across the business, the Legal Advisor advises on contracts, disputes, and regulatory matters, and engages external legal experts as needed to support sound decision-making and uphold integrity and accountability across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
As our Legal Advisor, you'll be accountable for:
- Delivering timely and practical legal advice to proactively manage legal risks across contracts, regulatory compliance, governance, procurement, and commercial matters.
- Providing expert advice on legal rights and obligations relating to privacy, public interest disclosures, integrity and FOI legislation.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable health, water, environmental, procurement, and industrial laws, and implement new or amended legislation relevant to business operations.
- Preparing, reviewing, and assessing contracts, deeds, tenders, and other legal documents to mitigate risk, and support effective contract management practices.
- Managing disputes, litigation, and enforcement processes, liaising with regulators and external legal providers, and maintain key governance registers including conflicts of interest and procurement of external legal services.
About you:
- Tertiary qualifications in law and current Australian practising certificate, with several years of experience.
- Proficient in the delivery of legal services gained within corporate law firm or an in-house legal team for an organisation operating in a highly regulated environment.
- Significant experience in providing successful tactical and strategic advice on legal matters, together with meticulous attention to detail, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to negotiate and work collaboratively and cooperatively with both internal and external stakeholders.
