The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably experienced educators for this full time position in the Improvement, Learning and Wellbeing Team at Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong commencing January 2026 or as negotiated with the successful applicant's current employer. The initial appointment will be for a period of three years after which a permanent teaching position will be negotiated within the system of schools. .

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Education Officer - High Potential & Gifted Education (HPGE) is a member of the Improvement Learning and Wellbeing service area as part of the Learning K-12 team. The successful applicant in this position will work predominantly with teachers of students in Year 7-12 but will be required to have an understanding across the K-12 continuum, and to work in collaboration with the Wellbeing and Student Support Team to enrich opportunities for gifted students from K-12. It is expected that the successful applicant will also support the mission of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Wollongong and promote the strategic direction document, "Lighting the Way" through the Continuous Catholic School Improvement Framework.
ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
To be considered for this position, the applicant will be able to demonstrate they have the transferable skills and experience of an effective leader who:
- Gives witness to the faith and contributes to the Catholic life and culture of the school community.
- Builds a culture of shared responsibility for growth in student learning, through leading collaborative practices that transform teaching and learning.
- A thorough understanding of NSW curriculum with the ability to lead professional learning and build teacher capacity in pedagogy in one or more secondary KLA.
- Demonstrates ability to improve student learning outcomes through data-driven, evidence-informed practice.
- Acts strategically to support Curriculum Leaders as they assist School Leadership Teams in driving school improvement initiatives aligned to the system's Strategic Direction.
- Experience in leading teachers in the use of current evidence-based pedagogical practice, curriculum and assessment.
- A passion for the education of high potential and gifted students, with an understanding of evidence-based holistic support.
- Demonstrated understanding of how high potential and gifted education programs and provisions can be embedded in the curriculum.
- Demonstrates innovation in an educational facility.
DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Evidence of formal study, or a willingness to undertake accredited postgraduate study, in High Potential and Gifted Education.
- Experience as a middle leader or above in a school or educational services setting.
- Understanding of the principles of learning as they apply to learners from K-12, as well as adult learners.
- Experience in facilitating professional learning to assist in building the capacity of teachers and leaders in high potential and gifted education.
- Willingness and initiative to access specialist knowledge and support for students and teachers in the field of high potential and gifted education.
GENERAL CAPABILITIES (applicable to the role):
- Experience in a formal educational leadership position and/or other relevant positions appropriate to the role.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organisational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-graduate study in a relevant discipline.
- Accreditation in accordance with the 'Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead in Systemic Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong' policy (or a commitment to acquiring within a 5 year period).
- Proficient or higher level Teacher Accreditation from NSW Education Standards Authority.
- Current driver's license.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE
This role is classified as child-related work and therefore a Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment at CEDoW. .
