About the Role
The Department of Education is looking for a Psychologist to contribute to the important work of our Student Support Services (SSS) team, in Inner Gippsland. If you are passionate about helping children and young people reach their full potential, and like working in a collaborative multidisciplinary team, then a role in the Student Support Services is the job for you.
The successful applicant will have a passion for working with schools and young people to maximise student well-being and engagement. This role will involve undertaking assessments and assisting schools with the process of applying for additional funding under the Program for Students with Disabilities, offering support and advice on a range of student well-being issues and provide professional development to schools. The SSS Psychologist will provide comprehensive psychological services to schools, which affect developmental and learning outcomes and student wellbeing. This can encompass a broad range of areas including: learning issues, cognitive issues, behavioural issues, disabilities, mental health, school and work transitions, self-esteem, grief and loss, trauma, anger management, relationships, conflict, sexuality, and drug/alcohol involvement.
Key components of the role also include collaboration with and provision of advice to other student support services team members in respect to complex cases as well as the ability to support teachers in the development of educational programs, particularly in respect to students with additional needs. The successful applicant will be able to provide advice that will influence the development of teaching and learning strategies, prepare policy advice for consideration by the school network leadership team, as well as possess sound written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
The Inner Gippsland SSS Branch is made up of Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Team Leaders and a Branch Manager. As a member of this team, you will have access to a car to travel to various school locations (subject to availability), a laptop, an iPhone as well as access to an extensive assessment and resource library. The ideal applicant will possess a graduate or post-graduate qualification in psychology or equivalent; have registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA) and possess a current Australian Drivers' License and Working with Children Check.

Schools and Regional Services (SRS) offers central, regional, and local expertise to enhance learning and development outcomes, supported by a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce. It comprises 17 areas within 4 regions, backed by 5 central office divisions, all collaborating to deliver improved outcomes for early childhood services, schools, communities, and learners, in line with Education State commitments. SRS regions serve as a bridge between the central office, schools, and service providers, ensuring smooth transitions for learners and achieving the department's ambitious targets. Each region includes divisions specialising in school performance, student wellbeing and early childhood support, working with area-based teams to tailor local interventions and practices. The 17 areas provide crucial insights into local trends and issues, facilitating effective policy and program development and driving child and learner outcomes across all services and programs.
This role is located in the Student Support Services Branch, Inner Gippsland Area, South Eastern Victoria Region, SRS. The Student Support Services Branch is a multi-disiplanary team responsible for a range of health and wellbeing services. The role reports to the Student Support Services Branch Manager.
