As part of ongoing improvements to commercial capability, this local council is seeking a skilled Senior Procurement and Contracts Officer to join their team and help drive best-practice procurement across the organisation.

Your new role

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on variety, stakeholder engagement, and strategic thinking. You'll lead end-to-end procurement activities, manage complex contracts, and provide expert advice that supports transparent, compliant, and value for money outcomes. You'll collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and senior leaders to ensure procurement processes are effective, ethical, and aligned with Council policies and legislative requirements.

  • Lead and manage the procurement process for high-value and complex goods, services, and works
  • Prepare tender documentation, evaluation plans, contracts, and procurement reports
  • Provide expert advice on procurement strategy, contract management, and risk mitigation
  • Support and mentor staff in procurement best practice and compliance
  • Monitor supplier performance and manage contract variations, renewals, and negotiations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including policy updates and system enhancements
  • Ensure all procurement activities meet legislative, regulatory, and audit requirements

What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement and contract management within Local Government is an essential requirement for this role.
  • Strong understanding of tendering, probity, and contract law principles
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
  • High level analytical and report writing capability
