The opportunity

We are rapidly expanding our services and continue to expand our portfolio. In doing so, we are looking to create a roster of Senior Gender Equality Advisors & Researchers with diverse experience across a range of development practices, including Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), policy and strategy, partnership-building, capacity-building, communications, humanitarian response, gender mainstreaming, and/or multidisciplinary experience.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for individuals with diverse Gender Equality knowledge, capabilities, and experience. We are currently looking for individuals who have good experience in one or a combination of the following areas:

  • Proven record of successful experience in engaging partners including demonstrated experience in working with UN institutions, governments (at all levels), philanthropic foundations, international and local NGOs or civil societies in the specific area of gender equality
  • Expert knowledge and experience of gender equality and gender issues in international development including in results-based management, planning and monitoring of programmes
  • Strong capacity in designing and executing gender analyses and gender responsive evaluations, and/or research studies and/or in synthesising data sets/evidence and generating programmatic recommendations
  • Significant experience conducting gender analysis and/or gender-related research and evidence synthesis in an international context
  • Significant experience in developing gender and partnership strategies, policies and plans in an international context, including with children/young people
  • Significant experience conducting gender-related research and gender-responsive monitoring and evaluation in an international context
  • Significant experience developing training materials and conducting training and related capacity building on gender equality
  • Proven track record of producing and developing communication assets and knowledge products relating to gender equality and women and girls' empowerment
  • Significant experience in designing and managing humanitarian programmes, with a particular focus on gender and protection in emergencies

Below are the types of work we anticipate delivering to our future clients and partners on Gender Equality, and we can partner with you to deliver some of those assignments or projects.

  • Gender analyses and literature/evidence reviews
  • Strategic advice on Gender Equality, including policy development, strategy development, and partnership-building
  • Gender-related research and gender-responsive MEL
  • Gender-focused training materials and capacity-building
  • Communication and knowledge products
  • Humanitarian programme design and reviews with a focus on gender and protection in emergencies

And you will have:

  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, international development, gender studies, public policy, public administration, economics, public health, management or related fields
  • At least 10 years of experience working with global developments and international engagement strategies, including the application of an equity lens, age sensitive and life course lens, and human rights perspectives to programming, and ability to apply learning from global research and evidence in gender policy, advocacy and programming
  • 5-7 years of experience leading multidisciplinary and multinational teams
  • Ability to communicate with various stakeholders in multi-cultural contexts and to express concisely and clearly ideas and concepts in written and oral form
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; Knowledge and ability to provide services in other languages especially in French, Spanish or Arabic will be considered an asset
  • Strong leadership, influencing and collaboration skills
  • Facilitation skills and ability to manage diversity of views in different cultural contexts is a requirement
  • Previous experience of working with the UN/CSOs/NGOs and other development partners is desirable
  • Demonstrated use of feminist principles and values across all areas of work
  • Cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability required.
  • Good understanding of everyday work technology.
  • Willing to travel for the whole or part of the assignment – if successful.
  • Relevant professional certifications, memberships, or publications. (desirable).
  • Previously completed similar assignments as an independent consultant. (desirable).
