About the role

This position sits within the Outreach Cluster, which aims to improve the health and wellbeing, of people who use alcohol and other drugs.

The Case Worker works with other team members to provide structured support, identify needs and build goal directed care plans. The Case Worker makes referrals to other services, provides regular support to clients, works alongside other members of the team, and holds a case load to provide short - to medium term care to clients who meet the criteria for case work by the City Street Health team.

Your duties include:

  • Provide harm reduction education, advocacy, referral, needles/syringes and other injecting and disposal equipment to clients to support safer using and disposal through Outreach
  • Using safe strategies, work with intoxicated consumers and assess overdose risk
  • Provide secondary consultations to other cohealth staff as required and assist in developing strategies to effectively manage clients with complex needs

Our ideal candidate:

  • Minimum Certificate IV (Alcohol and Other Drugs) and/or tertiary studies in Community Development, Social Work etc)
  • Lived experience will be highly regarded
  • Sound knowledge of the health and social issues and service sector for people who use substances and sleep rough
  • A commitment to the principles of harm reduction and recovery
