Your Opportunity
As the Senior Advisor, Student Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing you will be responsible for:

  • Contribute to and support strategic directions of TAFE Queensland through the program of work undertaken by the Centre for Learning and Teaching with a specific focus on the student engagement, and quality learning and teaching practices.
  • Be responsible for leading the design, planning, development and implementation of strategies, plans and initiatives to enhance the student experience and support quality improvements in learning and teaching to enhance educational outcomes for students.

The role requires collaboration with relevant business areas and stakeholders across TAFE Queensland to achieve educational priorities and objectives.

This position reports to the Executive Director Educational Quality Capability & Integrity (VET).

This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity, unless otherwise determined.

The position location is flexible, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and analyse relevant local, state, national and international education and training policies, priorities and trends to provide advice to key stakeholders on future directions and issues related to, inclusive practice, learner engagement, and student success, retention and wellbeing.
  • Lead the development and monitor the implementation of key action plans including the Student Success and Retention Action Plan, the Disability, Access and Inclusion Plan and other key projects and programs that support the strategic objectives and initiatives that drive student engagement, success and retention.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of policies, and procedures that enhance student engagement, success, retention and wellbeing in accordance with relevant standards and legislation.
  • Provide leadership and support to the implementation of the Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) student assessment process including coordinating communication between the customer service, student service and ICT services to ensure a supportive student experience.
  • Monitor, advise and where appropriate update student facing communications (including website and online student orientation) to ensure it supports student diversity, inclusion and wellbeing
  • Support key stakeholders to monitor and report on educational performance in relation to identified performance indicators (including Equity Targets) and respond to issues through the implementation of appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Chair the Learner Engagement Sub-Committee and the Diversity and Inclusion Community of Practice
  • Actively participate and inform organisational committees and working groups that drive student success, engagement and wellbeing including (but not limited to) the Student Voice working group and First Nations Education Strategy working group.
  • Provide expert advice to relevant stakeholders related to student engagement, academic progression and targeted support and intervention for learners, including but not limited to access and equity, , inclusive practice, student wellbeing and strategies to support students at risk of not achieving successful outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver targeted training to regional staff to support student access, inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the values of Safety First, Working Together, Focusing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.

How You Will Be Assessed
The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  • Proven high-level ability to provide educational leadership and advice in relation to strategies to improve vocational student engagement, access and equity, student diversity (including first nations) and student wellbeing.
  • High level of knowledge of relevant state and national education and training priorities, current research, relevant legislation, contemporary learning and teaching practices and issues impacting student engagement and success.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver educational programs for staff to improve student engagement, access, equity and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage workload and complex projects, both autonomously and as part of an integrated team, including setting and achieving realistic goals to ensure that project objectives and timelines are met.
  • High level communication, consultation and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of key stakeholders in order to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Well-developed written skills applicable to the development and implementation of strategies and plans, educational policy and procedures, high quality and timely reports, submissions and briefings of a complex and substantial nature.

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Higher level qualification (degree or post-graduate) in education or a related discipline.
