Investment Management Internship
Infradebt is looking for an undergraduate student to work as a paid intern in its Canberra office. The position is open to students who expect to complete their university studies at the end of 2026.
About Infradebt
Infradebt is a specialist infrastructure debt fund manager with circa $1 billion in funds under management. We focus on providing project finance to infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on decarbonisation. Infradebt manages a range of investment strategies and mandates including the Infradebt Ethical Fund (IEF), which is Australia's first ethically screened infrastructure debt fund. The fund's portfolio includes loans to a diverse portfolio of renewable energy and social infrastructure projects.
Infradebt's clients range from some of Australia's largest superannuation funds, through to family offices and foundations. The firm's approach focuses on selecting investment opportunities based on a deep understanding of the project, the infrastructure sector in which it operates (renewables, ports etc) as well as broader macroeconomic conditions.
A core tenet of the firm's capability is genuine collaboration and diversity of thought and ideas contributing towards the final investment thesis. Thus, building the diversity of the firm's investment team is an important component of firm's long-term strategy. This internship is part of this strategy.
Role Description
As part of a tight knit team, you will learn the fundamentals of project finance and the business of investment management. Duties include:
- Financial modelling. Learn to build and maintain project finance transaction models that underpin investment decision making,
- Portfolio construction and monitoring. Learn about constructing investment portfolios and monitoring risk exposures,
- Asset monitoring and management. Assist in monitoring projects through the construction period and during operations,
- Capital raising. Assist in preparing capital raising materials to new clients and providing insights to potential and existing clients, and
- Sector research. Contribute to our research on sectors within the infrastructure asset class monitoring current trends and assessing the competitive position of emerging technologies.
- Unit Pricing and fund reporting. Assist with regular fund reporting to investors, including fund valuation/unit pricing.
This is a unique opportunity to get hands on experience in infrastructure investing and funds management more broadly. As part of a small team, you will gain exposure to all facets of investment portfolio design, construction and management. You will also work closely, and be supported by, a range of very experienced investment professionals.
The role is part-time (indicatively 8-10 hours per week) for calendar 2025 and 2026 with the expectation to work full-time during university holidays (we will of course facilitate time off for holidays/breaks during this period). Subject to the performance of the selected candidate, and the resource requirements of the firm, the intention would be for the candidate to transition into a full-time position with the firm post-graduation.
Infradebt is an equal opportunity employer, and as part of this approach we provide flexible working arrangements for all staff. In particular, responsibilities and hours in calendar 2025/26 would be designed to be complementary to the candidate's university obligations.
Who We're Looking For:
We are seeking candidates who:
- are eager to learn and have a genuine interest in investing;
- demonstrate strong academic performance;
- have strong quantitative skills, particularly in Excel;
- have excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
- have an analytical, curious (and sceptical) mindset with a capacity to work effectively in a team.
You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident with an intention to live and work in Canberra
We welcome candidates from all backgrounds with a base level of financial knowledge to apply – including students undertaking a degree in finance, economics, actuarial, accounting, engineering or law.
