Primary objective
Provide high-level leadership of the significant Northern Territory Government system-wide, data-driven, coherent education
framework, and report on the success of schools and early childhood services for the Department of Education to deliver on the
priorities of the Education NT Strategy to become the most improving system in Australia.
Context statement
The Schools and Regions branch consists of six regions across the Northern Territory. This position is based in Darwin and has
accountability for education improvement and school operations across the Schools Division. This position will primarily have the
oversight and facilitation of the Strategic Partnership Model.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide executive-level leadership and strategic direction to the Schools and Regions Branch to achieve the strategic objectives of
the Territory Government for school and early childhood education improvement in the NT.
2. Provide high-level advice and support to the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive Schools on a broad range of sensitive
and complex education improvement strategy and program delivery matters.
3. Responsible for oversight and high-level advice on the development of new and existing evidenced-based strategies which impact
education improvement, and ensure education improvement programs are effectively coordinated, monitored, measured, and
reported.
- Lead the development and implementation of high-level reporting on education improvement including gathering performance data
to set targets and trajectories for the six regions and undertaking in-depth assessments of historical, internal, and external peer
comparisons locally, nationally, and internationally to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships and alliances across a broad range of stakeholders, including schools and
early childhood services, and engage external experts in school and system improvement to guide the work, provide validation,
coaching, support, and sharpen practice.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed strategic, conceptual, and analytical skills, expert knowledge, and demonstrated ability to access and leverage
education improvement frameworks for schools and early childhood services, and strategies to deliver results and affect change
across the NT.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of education improvement programs in the NT, nationally, and internationally and the tools
and frameworks used to guide improvement by schools and services.
- High-level understanding of the structure of government and government processes, including well-developed knowledge of the
critical elements involved in the preparation of briefings and complex reports.
- Exceptional collaborative and adaptive leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead cultural change and establish and sustain
productive working relationships across education and corporate leadership and external experts.
- Demonstrated high-level political awareness, sensitivities, judgement, and whole of government perspective.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary and post-graduate qualifications.
