The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:Be mentored and work alongside gastroenterologists and other related allied health staff within the team.Be exposed to a wide range of gastroenterology cases as inpatients and outpatients (clinics), consultations and endoscopic procedures. Point of contact for infusions and research projects.Assist with endoscopy procedures include gastroscopy, colonoscopy, chromoendoscopy, stricture dilatations and balloon enteroscopy.Participate in research projects and clinical trialsSupervise and train students, registrars and other Doctors in TrainingContribute to educational activities with MQ HealthLearn transabdominal ultrasound for IBD.About Us At MQ Health we unite the best clinicians (the majority of the consultants that work at MQ Health are involved in other large tertiary teaching hospitals), the most astounding researchers and the most dynamic teachers to lead the development of health and medical education and practice in Australia. About You Ideally you will be enrolled into a higher degree and working on a research project. You will be a registrar seeking to further your skills and knowledge in gastroenterology. You will be keen to work in an innovative multidisciplinary environment and be passionate about providing patient centred care. You will have experience working within busy inpatient settings, while balancing supervision, teaching and mentoring of junior staff and medical students. Key Accountabilities include (Not limited to): Clinical As a Gastroenterology Advanced Trainee, you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care across inpatient and outpatient settings at Macquarie University Hospital (MUH) and affiliated clinics. You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary team and under the guidance of experienced specialists. Key clinical responsibilities include:Participating in daily ward rounds, handovers, and timely clinical decision-makingAssisting in a wide range of endoscopic procedures, including: Gastroscopy and colonoscopy, ERCP and balloon enteroscopy, Chromoendoscopy and stricture dilatationProviding consultation and liaison services with other medical teamsMaintaining accurate and timely electronic medical recordsSupporting safe discharge planning and continuity of careParticipating in an on-call roster as requiredYou will be expected to deliver care in accordance with evidence-based best practices and hospital policies, while contributing actively to team-based communication and handover processes. Administrative Your administrative duties will support the smooth running of the department and broader hospital system. These include:Attending relevant discipline and hospital meetingsParticipating in M&M reviews and incident reportingProviding at least four weeks' notice for planned leave and ensuring clinical coveragePromptly reporting any incidents that could give rise to a complaint or medico-legal issueQuality and Research Activities You will be actively involved in quality improvement and research activities that align with MQ Health's commitment to excellence and innovation. Opportunities include:Participating in clinical audits, peer reviews, and root cause analysesSupporting hospital accreditation processes and safety reviewsContributing to or initiating research projects with your clinical supervisorAttending and contributing to M&M and Sentinel Event meetingsSupervision, Training and Education Teaching and mentorship are integral to this role. You'll work closely with junior doctors and the broader clinical team to foster a culture of learning. Key activities include:Supervising junior medical staff and supporting their developmentContributing to the education of medical students, nurses, and allied health staffAttending and presenting at education sessions, journal clubs, and grand roundsRepresenting MQ Health at internal and external academic forums where appropriateProfessional Development, Continuing Education and Maintenance of Standards We are committed to supporting your ongoing training and career development.
