About the Role

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is seeking a Senior Archivist to support the development, preservation, and accessibility of the Bank's archival collections, with a strong focus on digitisation and research.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of archival practice through strategic initiatives to modernise archival workflows, enhance discoverability, and ensure long-term preservation using emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Archives, you will:

  • Undertake appraisal, arrangement, and description of archival records, including born-digital and digitised materials.
  • Investigate new technologies to support intelligent search capabilities across the collections.
  • Oversee digital preservation strategies and systems, ensuring compliance with National Archives of Australia (NAA) standards and long-term accessibility.
  • Develop and implement archival policies and procedures that reflect contemporary best practices and technological innovation.
  • Provide advice on archival and information management issues, including standards and best practice for Commonwealth agencies.
  • Oversight of access requests and support research using the Bank's archival collections.
  • Mentor staff, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the RBA in professional forums and contribute to sector-wide initiatives on digital archives and AI integration.

About You

You will bring:

  • A degree in archives, information management, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in archival practice, including research and access.
  • Demonstrated interest in new technologies and how these might be incorporated into an archival or information management context.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and frameworks, including the Archives Act 1983, and NAA standards and policies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to embrace change and innovation in archival services.
  • A commitment to public service values and the preservation of Australia's documentary heritage.
