Primary objective

This position supports professional development and learning opportunities for Aboriginal educators in Milingimbi school/s, through

culturally responsive approaches that align with the career aspirations of Aboriginal Educators.

Context statement

This position sits within the Milingimbi school structure and works closely with the department's corporate Aboriginal Educator's team who

manage the Remote Aboriginal Teacher Education (RATE) program. The Aboriginal Educators team is part of Safety Culture and Care (SCC)

within Educational Leadership, Culture and Care (ELCC). ELCC caters for education workforce needs across the Northern Territory, including

those related to career development, wellbeing, and cultural responsiveness.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Utilise effective collaborative networks and relationships, in particular with senior school leaders.

2. Support school leaders to meet RATE sites requirements and enable Aboriginal Educator engagement in culturally and contextually

responsive professional learning.

3. Identify professional learning opportunities that align with Aboriginal Educator career aspirations as well as school and regional

Aboriginal workforce development priorities.

  1. Work collaboratively with the Aboriginal Educators team to strategically align NT DET and course provider requirements.
  2. Support Aboriginal Educators to engage with Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) diagnostics to inform professional

learning pathways, access tailored professional learning and measure professional growth.

6. Support Aboriginal Educators to access Vocational Education and Training (VET) and higher education courses in line with aspirations,

Professional Growth Plan (PGP) goals and LLND levels.

  1. Coach and mentor RATE participants to assist in managing accredited training and work.
  2. Carry out administrative tasks such as tracking RATE participant data and implementing agreed actions from collaborations with course

providers and processes in the RATE PLL Handbook.

9. Assist with promotion of tutoring opportunities and liaise with on-site tutors working with Aboriginal Educators to maintain oversight

of progress and support.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Knowledge and understanding of cultural, social and economic environments in the Northern Territory.

2. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and experience developing and maintaining working relationships in cross cultural settings.

3. Demonstrated effective, flexible communication skills in a wide range of educational, industry and/or community environments to

achieve mutually agreed outcomes.

  1. Demonstrated experience collating, tracking and analysing data.
  2. Knowledge, understanding and experience in developing and/or supporting professional growth plans and adult learning principles.

Desirable

1. Teaching degree, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or other qualification relevant to the role.

2. Experience working within VET and/or Higher Education settings.

Further information

Applicants are required to have a current working with children clearance notice (Ochre Card), a current driver's licence, and be willing to

travel remotely by 4WD and in light aircraft. This position requires staying overnight in remote communities.
