About the School

Hester Hornbrook Academy is an independent Special Assistance School providing flexible and inclusive education for young people aged 15–25 across multiple campuses in Greater Melbourne. We believe in Wellbeing for Learning and Learning for Wellbeing.

Guided by our trauma-informed HOPE (Healing Oriented Program of Education) framework, we offer integrated academic and wellbeing support through applied learning pathways including VPC, VM, and VETiS. We work with young people who face significant barriers to traditional education and who deserve learning environments built on trust, safety, and opportunity.

Position Purpose

We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and driven Leader of Wellbeing Support Services to guide the implementation and development of our School Psychology and Therapeutic Family Engagement Programs.

In this dynamic role, you will:

  • Provide clinical supervision and leadership to a team of Psychologists and Therapeutic Family Engagement Workers
  • Lead evidence-based therapeutic interventions, assessments, and crisis responses
  • Deliver student-centred mental health support in line with the HOPE model
  • Drive program innovation and professional learning aligned with trauma-informed, inclusive practices
  • Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to embed whole-school wellbeing strategies

You are a registered Psychologist (AHPRA) with 5+ years' experience and board-approved supervisor credentials. You bring proven expertise in trauma-informed youth mental health, education settings, and therapeutic leadership. Your passion for supporting vulnerable young people is matched by your ability to lead teams, apply data-informed practices, and engage diverse stakeholders.

Key Selection Criteria  (abridged; full details in Candidate Information Pack)

  • Full registration as a Psychologist (AHPRA) with board-approved supervision endorsement
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership in supervision, program design, and intervention
  • Experience in psychoeducational and social-emotional assessments
  • Advanced skills in crisis response, safety planning, and interagency collaboration
  • Knowledge of inclusive education and the barriers faced by young people with complex needs
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary therapeutic teams
  • Strong data analysis and strategy evaluation capabilities
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships and embed trauma-informed care

Essential Requirements

  • National Police Check and Working with Children Check (Employee)
  • Proof of identity and right to work in Australia
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence
  • A commitment to child safety, professional ethics, and continuous improvement
