Workday Implementation Specialist - Payroll Integration & Redesign

  • Melbourne preferred (Brisbane considered for exceptional candidates)
  • 12-Month Fixed Term
  • $220K-$250K + Super
  • Partner with a leading vendor to deliver a major Workday integration uplift

The Opportunity

We're partnering with a major Australian logistics organisation in the middle of a complete HR and payroll transformation, rebuilding the backbone of how they manage, pay, and support their 10,000+ workforce.

They've chosen Workday as their core HR platform and are redesigning the integration between Workday and their new payroll solution (aPay).

To make this happen, they need a Workday Implementation Specialist with deep technical expertise - someone who can act as the bridge between their internal team and the external vendor leading the integration build.

You'll guide the Workday configuration, co-design integrations, validate data flows, and ensure the technical setup aligns with business rules, compliance, and future scalability.

Why This Role Exists

This is one of the most complex and high-visibility people technology transformations in Australia right now.

The program is replacing legacy systems like Preceda, ADI, and Workforce Central with a modern, cloud-first ecosystem anchored around UKG, Workday + aPay.

You'll sit in-house, working shoulder-to-shoulder with both a team of high-level internal stakeholders, a number of which are SME's in Payroll rollouts, and a specialist third-party integration vendor, ensuring what's being designed and delivered meets business needs - technically and operationally.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Act as the Workday SME within the HR Transformation team, leading from the business side
  • Partner with the external vendor on co-design and delivery of Workday-to-payroll integrations
  • Validate and influence integration architecture, testing, and deployment plans
  • Configure Workday modules (HCM, Time, Payroll) to align with new business processes
  • Ensure data integrity across Workday and payroll through mapping, transformation, and validation
  • Manage technical configuration activities and participate in parallel run testing
  • Collaborate with HR, Payroll, and Technology leaders to resolve issues and drive alignment
  • Provide functional and technical expertise throughout design, testing, and go-live

About You

You're a seasoned Workday specialist who thrives in transformation environments - someone who knows the technical detail but can also lead conversations with vendors, stakeholders, and delivery partners.

You've worked across multiple integration builds or uplifts, ideally involving payroll systems, and know how to navigate data, testing, and design conversations at pace.

You'll Bring:

  • Extensive Workday experience (configuration, integration design, and delivery)
  • Proven track record partnering with external vendors on co-design and integration builds
  • Strong understanding of Workday data structures, APIs, and technical configuration
  • Experience building or redesigning integrations between Workday and payroll systems (aPay, Dayforce, SAP, SuccessFactors, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with testing, validation, and parallel runs for payroll cutover
  • Excellent stakeholder management and vendor engagement capability
  • Analytical, delivery-focused, and calm under pressure
