We are seeking an experienced and motivated Dairyperson/Herdsman to join our Dairy Farming business on the south coast of NSW.

This is a full time position. To be paid under the federal pastoral award based on experience.

The day to day duties of this position will include but are not limited to:

  • Collecting cows from paddocks using small tractor or buggy
  • Ensuring smooth flow of cows in the dairy
  • Setting up and checking future paddocks for cows. Mixture of permanent and strip graze electric fencing.
  • Budgeting of grass that is in front of the cows plus silage they are being fed.
  • Breeding of cows back at dairy as cows get drafted during milking. Plus re-tagging of cows etc.
  • All activities associated with maternity cows. Checking of springers, calving cows, tagging of calves, record keeping, shifting cows and calves between pens, sorting of springers, transporting calves to calf yard, walking fresh cows to dairy.
  • Communicating with farm owners/more senior staff and cow feeders/machinery operators.
  • Getting in and helping with treatment of hospital cows.
  • Occasional milking may be required.
  • Regular hoof trimming as cows are being dried off

Essential requirements:

  • Good cattle experience. Good temperament around cows.
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • The knowledge of the setup, maintenance and repairs of electric fence systems.
  • Experience with the calving of cows and general knowledge of maternity cows.
  • AI experience is a must.
  • Pasture/feed budgeting and management.
  • General knowledge of herd/reproductive health.
  • As you may have realised by the job description, this is a physical hands on job that involves manual labor. Do not apply if you cannot perform manual labor tasks.
