About the role

There are two Full Time fixed term to 31 March 2028 positions, one based in Bega and one based in either Narooma or Batemans Bay, with Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services.

As an AOD Family, Carers and Friends Support Worker you will be responsible for providing high-quality, family-inclusive, culturally responsive support and engagement services to families, carers and friends of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are misusing alcohol and other drugs.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are on a sobriety healing journey to holistically address their health, wellbeing, cultural and other needs.

What you'll be doing

· Undertake intake screening and client assessment to determine client eligibility and suitability and to identify if counselling and support is an appropriate service to meet client needs.

· Develop individual care plans for all clients including incorporating the role of culture, family and other supports.

· Through group and/or individual yarning and activity-based treatment help people understand their own or others' alcohol and other drug use, and to make changes for better health and wellbeing.

· Undertake risk screening to identify health, social and behavioural risks that need to be responded to and incorporated into care planning.

· Assess child safety and wellbeing in line with child protection requirements.

· Facilitate access to peer support if possible.

· Ensure client exit and transfer of care planning is undertaken in partnership with clients and other care providers, is documented and shared as necessary.

· Maintain detailed and accurate case notes and data collection to track progress and outcomes.

  • Participate in clients' case reviews and planning meetings
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local services and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated, holistic support

What we're looking for

· Demonstrated experience working with clients using a person-centred, empathetic, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach.

· Demonstrated sound interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to liaise and network with a range of stakeholders including internal and external service providers as well as effectively communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of all ages.

· Demonstrated ability to implement and work within a case management framework to deliver services.

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the social, economic, and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in today's society.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a flexible, adaptable approach to meeting the evolving needs of clients.
  • If you don't already have a Certificate III or IV a willingness to engage with and complete additional training to gain a qualification in Community Services or Alcohol and Other Drugs or similar.
