A 20-year, fast-growing public practice in Ballarat that actually walks the talk on progression. Think: ~30+ people, young and energetic team, monthly early-finishes, a buzzing social club, and leaders who started as cadets and now sit at the table. The client base is hands-on SMEs (heaps of trade services) — family groups, companies and trusts typically turning over $1–2m — who value straight answers and proactive advice. Double-digit growth year after year means they're building for scale and want a senior anchor on the floor.

Responsibilities

  • Own a mixed portfolio across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals.
  • Review complex work (returns, BAS/FBT, reconciliations) and keep quality tight.
  • Lead from the front: mentor juniors, set review rhythms, lift standards.
  • Be first call for clients — translate problems into practical, tax-smart solutions.
  • Team up with the Director on planning, structuring and advisory projects.
  • Front the ATO when needed and help improve processes as the firm scales.
  • Tools: modern stack with Xero at its core.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in public practice (open to less if you're a gun).
  • Strong Australian tax technical base and a calm, client-facing style.
  • You like being on site, 5 days, visible and available — the person juniors look to.
  • Proven reviewer/coach who can turn "nearly there" into "nailed it".
  • Comfortable with owner-operators and tradies; you keep it clear, not cloudy.
  • CA/CPA qualified or working towards (nice, not a deal-breaker).
  • Process-minded: you spot bottlenecks and quietly fix them.
