Position Information

Colyton Public School is a student-centred school where the development of strong partnerships with parents/carers and the broader community are actively encouraged and valued. The school has an enrolment of 713 students, 7% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 75% from a language background other than English. A balanced, comprehensive curriculum catering for differences in achievement and ability is provided to students, including students enrolled in an Opportunity Class (OC). Effective literacy and numeracy programs are complemented by co-curricular programs in the Arts, student leadership and sport.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach English as an additional language or dialect or currently undertaking or currently enrolled in English as an additional language or dialect qualifications approved by the NSW Department of Education.

Proven ability to work collaboratively as a team to support the literacy and English language skills of EAL/D students, including New Arrival students, using knowledge of the ESL scales and progressions, as well as incorporating EAL/D strategies into daily classroom practice.

Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to work effectively in a variety of teams and build positive relationships with all members of the school community.

Demonstrated ability to use effective classroom management skills and wellbeing practices to create a classroom environment that is supportive, inclusive, engaging and that fosters a culture of high expectations.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
