The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment & Water (DCCEEW) are looking for a
Principal Business Architect
to join a dynamic and growing IT team.

About the role

The Principal Business Architect translates NSW Government policy and DCCEEW strategic objectives into actionable business architecture, aligning business capabilities, value streams and operating models with enterprise architecture standards. You will leverage your business acumen, business case development expertise, and understanding of IT total cost of ownership to ensure solutions deliver measurable outcomes and value realisation for citizens and stakeholders.

In this role, you will lead business capability roadmaps, develop compelling business and benefits cases for transformation initiatives, and conduct cost-benefit analysis including IT payback assessments. You will engage with senior business stakeholders to secure alignment on solution direction, ensure adherence to enterprise architecture principles and standards, and maintain oversight of emerging policy trends to keep business architecture solutions current and effective.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience developing business capability models, value streams, and operating model designs that align with enterprise architecture principles and government service delivery requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise in business case development and benefits realisation including cost-benefit analysis, IT total cost of ownership assessment, and payback evaluation for large-scale transformation initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with demonstrated success influencing senior business leaders and securing alignment across complex portfolios
  • Experience translating organisational policy and strategic objectives into actionable business architecture roadmaps and transformation programs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with ability to navigate complex organisational challenges and deliver solutions under tight deadline
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with a willingness to contribute to group efforts and support colleagues in achieving objectives and adopting new knowledge
  • Ability to promote architectural standards, tools, and best practices to improve consistency and maturity across the organisation.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience in change management and transformation delivery with demonstrated ability to drive adoption of new business capabilities and operating models
  • Demonstrated experience as an architect for complex, large-scale business-led Technology projects involving multiple systems and stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF preferred) and ability to ensure business solutions comply with architectural standards and principles
  • Experience in defining business capability models and mapping it with technology reference models across the enterprise

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated equivalent industry/professional experience at a senior level
  • Understanding of and commitment to cyber security responsibilities as they relate to business architecture
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a business architecture, enterprise architecture, or similar role
