To provide expert advice to the Director of Forensic Disability that reflects analysis of clinical, legislative and system issues, and to provide a leadership role in undertaking tasks and activities that contribute to the proper and efficient administration of the Forensic Disability Act

The Principal Advisor key responsibilities are:


• Apply clinical experience, knowledge and skill (including areas of expertise within a discipline) to advise the Director of Forensic Disability in relation to compliance, clinical practice and complex case matters.

• Lead monitoring and compliance activities, case and service reviews to contribute to the continuous improvement and development of systems and strategic initiatives to support the care and protection of forensic disability clients and/or clients with an intellectual or cognitive disability involved in the criminal justice system.

• Lead the delivery of education, training, and information sharing to stakeholders in accordance with legislation and evidence-based practice.

• Establish and maintain collaborative and effective partnerships with stakeholders involved in supporting individuals with complex forensic and disability needs, including, identifying challenges that stakeholders might face; and identifying opportunities to strengthen their application of evidence-based practice to protect human rights, promote rehabilitation, habilitation, individual development and safely manage the risk of clients on a Forensic Order (disability).

• Contribute to the enhancement of services and systems to improve outcomes for clients on Forensic Order (disability) or those at risk of being placed on an order.

• Collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative data and respond to emerging issues and trends.

• Identify areas of risk in giving effect to the Forensic Disability Act and implement approaches to minimise risk.

• Prepare and present detailed comprehensive reports, data collection, briefings and correspondence on operational or program issues.

• Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
