The Opportunity
The
Aircraft Turnaround Services and Standards Manager
plays a critical role in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations. This position is responsible for managing aircraft turnaround policies and processes outlined in OM15B (Ground Crew), overseeing Aircraft Turnaround Systems, and managing Ground Services Equipment (GSE), freight operations and our fleet of ULDs. Additionally, the role provides oversight of operational safety performance for services delivered by Qantas Group GSE and Freight.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Airport Services, Safety, Quality and Training – this role will lead a team of Airport Service Specialists, set the long-term strategy for the aircraft turnaround portfolio, and represent Airport Services in forums focused on operational improvement, GSE, and freight initiatives.

A key part of this role is driving continuous improvement across turnaround functions, systems, and equipment to enhance compliance, mitigate safety risks, and support on-time performance. In addition, this role will facilitate collaboration with internal stakeholders to identify and implement initiatives that strengthen operational safety and compliance.

The core responsibilities of this role will be:

  • Manage and support team of Airport Services Specialists, setting clear goals and driving performance and development
  • Oversee aircraft turnaround standards, policies, and compliance, ensuring processes remain current and effective
  • Drive improvements in aircraft turnaround systems and deliver system enhancement initiatives on time, on budget and quality requirements
  • Manage Ground Service Equipment (GSE). Managing budgets, maintenance, and procurement, ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency
  • Monitoring freight operations and performance against SLAs between Jetstar and Qantas Freight. As well as identifying opportunities and managing ULD oversight
  • Lead turnaround-related projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and support new airport start-ups and aircraft entry-into-service

To be considered, key skills will include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Business, Aviation, or equivalent industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience within the aviation industry with an airline or ground-service provider
  • Ability to inspire, engage, and develop teams while building resilience and delivering results
  • Experience leading and delivering large-scale projects and programs of work
  • Continuous improvement focus to drive enhancements in policies, processes, training, and systems
  • Previous experience leading a team would be advantageous
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality outcomes across all deliverables
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with an ability to interpret data to inform decisions and enhance standards and systems
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills to influence at all levels of the organisation
