Primary objective
Lead the Policy Coordination and Engagement team within the Sustainable Energy Development (SED) Division to
coordinate energy policy across the Territory and advocate for the Territory's interests in local and national energy forums.
Context statement
The SED Division within the Department of Mining and Energy develops, advocates and implements energy policies,
strategies and regulations to support emerging clean energy industries and the sustainable, secure, reliable and affordable
supply of energy to Territorians.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop, lead and supervise the Division's policy coordination and engagement work program and manage a small team
of professional staff.
2. Manage the Division's strategic engagement through local and national energy policy forums, developing and
maintaining professional relationships, and working collaboratively to achieve the Division's objectives.
3. Coordinate the negotiation and implementation of intergovernmental agreements, advocating effectively for the
Territory's interests.
4. Provide comprehensive analysis and detailed advice on issues affecting the Northern Territory energy industry including
from economic, regulatory, commercial, governance and financial management perspectives.
5. Prepare high level written policy advice including briefings, reports, discussion papers, Cabinet submissions, and
ministerial correspondence.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills and the ability to produce work of a high standard.
2. Highly developed policy analysis skills, and ability to provide high-quality advice on complex issues, incorporating the
spectrum of economic, regulatory, commercial, governance and financial management perspectives.
3. Proven project management skills to plan and successfully complete multiple projects with critical deadlines, involving
the coordination and input of a range of consultants, work units and agencies.
4. Demonstrated high-level leadership and team management skills, including the ability to develop professional staff, and
commensurate management experience.
5. Demonstrated understanding of the national and local energy environment, developing trends and opportunities, and
the ability to translate this into meaningful strategic advice.
6. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, business or other relevant disciplines.
2. Demonstrated understanding of the national and local energy environment, developing trends and opportunities,
including the political environment, and the ability to translate this into meaningful advice.
3. Experience in energy industry governance and regulatory reform.
